Info
Duda Moraes was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1985. She currently lives and works in Bordeaux, France where she continues to develop her artistic work. She occupies since 2020 an atelier at L'Annexe B, (Association of artists' ateliers in Bordeaux), 1, Rue Jean Artus.
She graduated in Industrial Design at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, PUC-RJ, and worked for five years in a textile design office, where she created prints for major Brazilian brands. Duda started her artistic life since she was a child, she comes from a family of artists in Rio de Janeiro.
Her professional career begins in 2014 in Brazil, where she attended a four-week immersive drawing course. It was from there that she made her professional artistic commitment.
In her work, Duda explores gesture, composition, shapes and colors. Nature is a starting point for this look. Flowers, with their ambivalence between strength and fragility, allow for a wide range of possibilities in the artist's expression, as much as the quick but precise gesture and the vibrant colors that emerge from the mixture of forms.
In 2020, based on collage studies for her paintings, the artist began a new series using fabrics. Titled "Textile," this series features compositions similar to her paintings but with new materials: textures, colors, and pre-existing patterns that are transformed into works with volume and layers. It is at this point that Duda's work takes on a new form. Created from reclaimed fabrics, her pieces adopt wintry tones and more refined styles, thanks to velvets, silks, and arabesque patterns sourced in France, where the artist currently resides. The fabric work is a meeting point of cultures.
Significant solo and group exhibitions at the Bois Fleuri, Zone Trois gallery, and the Abbey of L'Escaladieu in France, Anita Schwartz gallery in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, group exhibitions such as the Noyau project of the Fhon association, 'La Dame à la Licorne' at Glacières de la Banlieue, Bleu Satellite, an off event of the bad+ salon, Tinbox#5, and Da Pintura at Z42, in 2023, he received the Robert Coustet prize in Bordeaux.
